SALT WATER PILGRIM

A visual homage to surfer and sea user culture

Salt Water Pilgrim is a transformative photographic series that captures the spirit of surf and sea culture through abstraction. Originally rooted in documentary-style photographs of surfers, this collection has been reimagined using Photoshop’s parametric filters to reshape form and texture. This evokes a painterly feel to the collection.

Each image in the series walks the line between photography and painting, dissolving realism to reveal a more emotional, intuitive response to the sea. Figures blur and stretch as their pilgrimage through saltwater is rendered as vibrant swirls of colour and motion. The result is a dynamic visual language that honours the physicality of surfing while inviting reflection on the energy of the ocean.

By abstracting the original scenes, Salt Water Pilgrim offers a new lens through which to view coastal life—one that celebrates transformation, both of image and of experience.
